No, the Source code is not encrypted and is well documented.

Do I get any free updates?
Yes, you will get free updates for two months after purchasing the script. There is a fee however if you want updates after that, we will charge $30 per year per script for any kind of updates. Although since you would get the complete source code, you can make changes on your own.

Is it really difficult for me to make updates on my own?
If you know PHP, you can study the script and make updates on your own. However, it also depends upon the nature of changes they make. There are a certain ways that may restrict any script to login what-so-ever, for example if they apply Captcha on the login page. Further information on Captcha can be found at http://www.captcha.net

I am getting this error "Fatal error: Call to undefined function: curl_init() in..." what should I do?
This error shows that you either don't have cURL Installed on your Web Server or is not configuered. if cURL is not installed, you can download it from http://curl.haxx.se/download.html and Install on your Web Server.
Most of the times cURL is alread installed on the WebServer, you just need to enable it, here is some help on how to enable cURL on Windows Server: http://www.tonyspencer.com/mt/archives/2003/10/curl_with_php_a.htm
